Since you’re going to do it anyway, you need to use a
proper method.
Have you noticed that you pick at your acne without
realizing that you are doing it? Picking pimples can
become habit forming. Dermatologists recognize that
this can be a problem all unto itself.
Becoming preoccupied with your acne, especially when
your acne is located on your face, can be more harmful
than you think. Constantly spending time in front of the
mirror and thinking about it all the time can make you more
frustrated about your condition. Not only do you suffer
from the physical scarring, you suffer from the emotional
scarring.
Your hand is automatically drawn to the biggest and worst
pimple on your face, arms, or shoulders. You idly sit there
and pick, pick, and pick some more. By the time you realize
what you are doing it is too late. Your skin is red and bruised.
Now you look like you have more acne than you actually
have. You get disgusted with yourself because you have
sat there and ruined your skin. You have actually allowed
more bacteria to spread over your skin and cause more
inflammation. Your skin is damaged and scarring is likely
to occur.
What should you do? You can’t tie your hands to the arms
of the chair or walk around with those white cotton gloves
on all day. That probably would be the best idea though.
This is a habit and will require you to become conscious of
your actions. When you realize that you are picking at a
pimple, immediately stop. Keep your hands busy doing
something else so you won’t venture toward picking at your
acne.
If you must pop that pimple, please follow these simple steps.
1) Wash your hands with an antibacterial soap
2) Wrap your hands in tissue
3) Squeeze the pimple very gently
4) Immediately cleanse your skin
5) Apply your acne topical treatment
This is not a recommendation to pop, squeeze, or pick at
your acne. Yet, knowing that you will more than likely to do
it anyway, please use these steps in order to alleviate
further inflammation.
If you suffer from severe acne with cysts and nodules,
you can severely damage your skin by trying to squeeze
them. This type of acne requires medical treatment and
should not be irritated by squeezing. Acne this severe may
require a dermatologist to drain the cysts. Allowing a
dermatologist to drain this type of acne will decrease the
chance of scarring. Taking matters into your own hands is
a sure way to suffer from scarring.
Remember, pimples are never ready to pop.
